JOB SUMMARY:

The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine’s campus in Manhattan, N.Y. has an opening for a full-time Physician (DO or MD) Faculty in the Department of Basic 
Biomedical Sciences, specifically for Course Director and Teaching Faculty in Pathology. 

Candidates must be committed to teaching, scholarship, and service, in line with TouroCOM’s mission statement, in addition to possessing strong communication skills. He / She must have a minimum of 1-2 year experience with a concentration in the General and Systemic Pathology. Teaching experience at the medical school or graduate level is preferred. In addition, he/she must have at least 2 years’ experience in Surgical/Anatomic Pathology Skills/Practice (recent experience within the past 5 years). A New York physician’s license is also required.

Responsibilities include direct and video-based didactic teaching, course administration, teaching and assessment of students. Additional duties include 
contributions to institutional and/or departmental governance and service.

Faculty is expected to engage in scholarly research in areas of biomedical science, medical education, and/or community-oriented research.


JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Participate in course planning, execution, delivery, and student assessment in the Systemic Pathology course. May also include cross-coverage teaching in General Pathology, Histology, and/or Clinical Systems courses.

2. Although no pathology diagnostic work is included, job responsibilities may include teaching of grossing and dissection of biopsy specimens, medium and 
high complexity surgical and resection specimens, and preparation of intraoperative frozen sections, all within the Masters Pathologists’ Assistant Program. 

3. Serving as Medical Director of Masters Pathologists’ Assistant Program.

4. Prepare and deliver teaching sessions (live and video) and quiz/examination questions that meets or exceeds national and Touro standards.

5. Provide assessment of student performance in examinations and the course.

6. Work with other Departments, i.e., OMM, Anatomy, and Primary Care, to integrate content and curriculum. 

7. Participate in scholarly activity and efforts towards publication, and to include students in their projects. 

8. Participate in student advising and provide guidance to the students of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, particularly “at risk” students.

9. Collaborate closely with TouroCOM Middletown campus Pathology Faculty. 

10. Provide course, departmental, and/or COCA reports and documents as requested by the Chair, Pre-Clinical Dean, or Dean.

11.Support all activities in the Department of Basic Biomedical Sciences.

12. Participate in scholarly activity and efforts towards publication, and to include students in their projects. 

13. Participate in the recruitment, hiring and training of the adjunct and full-time faculty.

14. Fulfill committee assignments, as assigned by the Dean.

15. Participate in DO and/or Masters Program admissions interviews, as assigned.

16. Satisfactory completion of Faculty Development for self as measured by the Preclinical Dean to include TouroCOM and Touro College Faculty Development and Evaluation Policy. 

17. Participate in service to the school and to the community.

18. Participate in other related activities as assigned. 

19.Special projects as directed. 

20. Faculty and Employee responsibilities as specified in the respective Touro handbooks. 


REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Preparation, and Training REQUIRED 

1. DO or MD Degree 

2. Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York

3. Board Certification and experience in Anatomic Pathology

PREFERRED 

1. Experience teaching in the undergraduate medical education setting 

2. Experience in administration

Physical Demands

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
- Proficiency in use of IOS and iPad-based software programs
- Understanding and ability to utilize a variety of computer software and hardware across a variety of platforms (e.g., iPad, Windows) 
- Understanding and ability to utilize of audio-visual and assessment equipment (e.g., Zoom, iClickers)
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems as applicable to anatomic pathology


Travel

• Occasional travel to TouroCOM Middletown campus may be required
