Postdoctoral fellowship available at Schepens Eye Research Institute and Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School  Boston, MA.

PhD or MD, PhD with an interest in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration. 

We are seeking a recent PhD graduate or junior postdoctoral research fellow to join a lively research group headed by Drs. Patricia D’Amore and Eric Ng at the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass. Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. The successful candidate will be involved in studying both the basic pathobiology as well as potential translational/pre-clinical research of various inflammation-associated neuro-vascular pathologies (dry and wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy) by using cell-based and novel genetic models.  The fellow will have access to in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo research models, as well as various research techniques and advanced equipment.  The successful candidate is expected to qualify for training grants and fellowships, and also to participate in the NIH funded Postdoctoral Training Program in the Molecular bases of Eye Disease at SERI (http://serinet.meei.harvard.edu/training/index.html), to ensure a successful and well-rounded post-doctoral training to prepare the candidate as an independent PI in both academia and in industry.

As part of your training, you will work as part of one or more projects and will acquire the research skills to be proficient in designing, managing, and performing experiments.  You will also be expected to collect and analyse data and deliver experimental research reports when necessary; writing  scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and present research data internally and externally. You will also have the opportunity to write and assist in the preparation of external grant applications and fellowships.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in cell and biochemistry, and experience using genetic models for disease mechanism research. Additional experience in animal models of vascular and ocular diseases, immunology, micro-dissection, cell culture techniques including primary cell isolation and culture, histology/immunohistochemistry is desirable.
