Chief of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

Seattle Children’s Department of Laboratories provides cutting-edge laboratory and pathology services for pediatric patients in the Pacific Northwest and outside our region. Our laboratory offers many specialized tests designed to address unique pediatric diseases. Over 250 employees perform nearly 2 million test per year. We are a fully accredited academic department connected to UW Dept of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology and we support several training programs, including a pediatric pathology fellowship program, and serve as a rotation site for residents, fellows, and medical scientist students.
As the Chief of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, you’ll provide overall leadership for the scope and quality of all clinical services, education and research related to laboratory diagnosis in a manner that meets continuous quality improvement, customer service, programmatic growth and financial requirements to support the mission of Seattle Children’s Hospital and regional sites. Reporting to the Vice President & Associate Chief Medical Officer, Chief Medical Operations Officer, you’ll provide leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives including programmatic components of operations, facilities, capital and operating budgets and staffing. You will also collaborate with the Medical and Administrative Directors of the Clinical Laboratory, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, and Vice President and Associate Chief Medical Officer to manage all resources and ensure that regulatory requirements are met.
Requirements
Required:
- MD or DO Degree
- Board certified in Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Clinical Pathology (CP) or both AP/CP
- Minimum of five (5) years managerial experience in a clinical laboratory
Preferred Experience:
- Previous laboratory leadership role or department director experience in pediatric pathology
Required Credentials Prior to Start of Employment:
- Unrestricted medical license in the State of Washington
- Medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary, except for normal probationary periods due to initial appointment. All medical and allied health professional staff members are provisional for the first year.
- A faculty appointment to the University of Washington School of Medicine
